A Free Community Concert

July 15th, 2017 at 7 PM

The Ticonderoga Historical Society presents a free community concert  ~~ “Liberated Ladies” ~~ thanks to grant funding and a talented group of singers and musicians.  We take a look at the centennial of women’s suffrage in New York State, where women received the right to vote a full two years before passage of the national amendment.

Tying into a multi-year exhibit housed inside the museum, the show will feature cabaret-stle performances by an array of local talent, including Mary jo von Tury and Dwinal Smith, Jane and Greg Evans of “Hot Box Honey”, Andrew and Katy Rasmus, and others.  The show will tell a “story” of women’s suffrage and empowerment through an array of songs stretching from the 1800s through the present day.

You will hear rally songs sung by suffragettes, steamy torch songs from the 1920s, campy numbers from the 1960s and inspiring anthems from the 1970s and 80s.  You can expect the unexpected because we are throwing in some very delightful surprises in addition to great music.

It will be a wonderful evening for everyone and we are please to offer this program as a gift to the community.  We are very thankful for financial assistance for this program through the generosity of:  Town of Ticonderoga, a New York State Humanities Grant, and funds from the Decentralization program, a re-granting program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and administered b y the Adirondack Lake Center for the Arts – and from the members of the Ticonderoga Historical Society.

An open invitation to all – we hope to see you there.

We have seats under the tent available on a first come basis — or, you can  bring your own chairs, blankets, etc  and enjoy the presentation on the lawn.
