Lost Ski Centers of the Northern Adirondacks

February 19, 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

The Northern Adirondacks are home to 47 downhill ski areas that are no longer in operation, from small community ski areas to all-inclusive resorts.  Many played important roles in the development of the sport on a regional and even a national basis.  Although most are either fading from memory or faded into the surrounding landscapes, their stories live on.

Jeremy Davis, is the founder of the New England and Northeast Lost Ski Area Project which preserves the history of over 600 lost ski areas throughout the east coast.  Jeremy returns to the Ticonderoga Historical Society on February 19th at 7 PM to present his newest book  – “Lost Ski Centers of the Northern Adirondacks“.   He will discuss the history of these ski areas, showing how they developed and what is left of them today.

A few of the ski centers that Jeremy will speak about are:  Hoffman Mountain, Baldpate Ski Club (Crown Point), Elizabethtown Ski Center and the Keene Valley Ski Club.  Although not part of his newest book, Mr. Davis will also remember Ticonderoga’s Punch Bowl, which was covered in a previous presentation here, and recorded by the author in an earlier book: “Lost Ski Centers of the Southern Adirondacks.”

Light refreshments will be served.  An opportunity to further speak with the author, and have his books autographed, will be available  after the presentation.

This is a free event – Donations are always welcomed.
